The board of intermediate and secondary education Multan is among the largest educational boards located in Punjab province of Pakistan. The ministry of the Education government of Punjab is the organizing body of this board giving it the basic most responsibilities to conduct the annual SSC and HSSC examination in the jurisdiction. The board is one of the largest boards among the eight boards in the Punjab province and every year a large number of students appear in the examination. For now it has been working under the Punjab Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education.
The BISE Multan was established on March 30, 1968. It was established after the ordinance of Government of West Pakistan. The ordinance was passed by the assembly of Pakistan on May 24 and the board started its camp office in Lahore. The board was later shifter to Multan in June. When the board was formed it had a greater jurisdiction including Quetta, Kallat, Bahawalpur and Multan region but then other districts were made independent.

The jurisdiction is that area which comes under the board’s responsibility and board is to conduct the annual examination of matriculation and intermediate in the following areas. The jurisdiction of the board has Mutlan district, Khanewal District, Vehari District, Lodhran District, Pakpattan District and Sahiwal District. Following districts comes under the BISE Mltan.
The board is working on a mission of providing the quality education upto the international standards to the residents in its jurisdiction. The board is developing an examination system which is fair and transparent and helps students to follow their dreams. The board wants to establish the education system of international standards. Mission of the BISE Multan is to establish such a system which is fair, transparent and efficient for conducting the secondary and intermediate education in its jurisdiction. The board is striving continuously for the betterment of the education system.
BISE Multan performs following functions.
The board’s working is a long process in which the institutes located in the jurisdiction are affiliated with the board. The institutes have to pay certain fees to the board to get affiliation. Board then starts registering the candidates for the annual examination of SSC and HSSC. There are two types of candidates which are registered. First category is the regular students and the second are private students.
Once the students are registered, the phase of paper setting is started. This phase has many steps like date sheeting, allocating centers, hiring paper conducting staffs, paper setting etc. Once the pre examination steps are done then come the paper conduction in which the board conducts the examination. Last phase is the result declaration in which papers are checked by the professors of leading institutes, rechecked and then result is formulated and then is released on the internet and in gazettes throughout the jurisdiction.
Every year millions of students are registered by the board which appears in the examination of matriculation and intermediate. Registrations open up prior to a couple of months before exams and after submitting the dues, a student can get enrolled for the examination. Board also gives scholarships to the toppers.
The syllabuses of matriculation and intermediate are set by the board along with the model papers and paper pattern. The students of matriculation have the choice of taking the major subjects from General science, Science and arts on the other hand the students of Intermediate can choose from Pre-medical, pre-engineering, commerce, computer science, general science and Arts. A large number of students appear in the board examination in almost every category and chose their future endeavors.
