It is a district located in the southern part of the Punjab Province in Pakistan. The district is located on the bank of Chenab River. The district is divided into four tehsils which are Alipur, Jatoi, Muzaffargarh and Kot Addu. The total area covered by the district is 8,249 square kilometers. According to the census of 1998, the region has a population of 2,635,903 people.
Punjabi is the language spoken by the majority (95%) with different dialects. The most speaking dialect is Thalochi and remaining are Majhi, Raangri, Derawali, Multani etc.
The Muzaffargarh name means the “Fort of Muzaffar”. It is after the fort constructed by the person who founded this town, Nawab Muzaffar Khan who was the Governor of Multan.
