Pakistan and Asian Development Bank Continue to Partner
Asian development bank has marked the 50th anniversary on Friday and the event was held in Pakistan in which federal minister Ishaq Dar and Vice president of the Asian Development Bank ABD Wencai Zhang participated. Among other notable members included the diplomats, federal ministers, government officials of Pakistan and the ABD’s senior staff.

ABD has been one of the supports of Pakistan in development of its infrastructure and bringing aid to the education sector of Pakistan in which supporting the technical and vocational trainings are included. The event included a panel discussion in which the topic was ‘What is next in Supporting Pakistan Development Agenda’. In the panel discussions the panelist shared their view of that ABD has been doing in Pakistan and what are they going to do next, in what sectors they are going to support Pakistan and its government o the road of prosperity.

The same event also marked the ABD’s nook launch which has the title ‘Banking on the Future of Asia and the Pacific – 50 years of Asian Development Bank’. The event played a shot presentation of the ABD’s support to Pakistan and its projects which are in the full swing and more planned projects were also shown to the participants. A commemorative postage stamp to mark the mutual relationship of ABD with Pakistan was also unveiled on the event.

Zhang, the president of ABD mentioned that for the past 50 years, the bank has been helping Pakistan to uplift their infrastructure, private and public sector development, bringing reforms in education sector and development in finance and agriculture department and the bank is looking forward to continue to do so in the future as well. He mentioned that with collaborative efforts of the both parties, we have come a long way to overcome the challenges and we are committed to reduce the poverty and increase the prosperity in Pakistan and he also mentioned how education is important for the country to achieve the goals of prosperity and no poverty.

Pakistan has been a founding member of the bank back in 1966 and the bank first assistance was given out back in 198 to help uplift small industries in the country which were flourishing in that time. Ever since then the bank has been among the largest development partners of Pakistan and has provided more than 29 billion USD in loans and grants along with the technical assistance.

The president of the bank also visited the Punjab’s chief minister Mr Shahbaz Sharif and with him visited Sundar Industrial Estate in Lahore. He discussed the ABD’s operations in Punjab and also emphasized on the importance of skillful youth through the vocational and technical training which will  be helping nation cultivate more skillful human resource which will then be provided all over the world. He also visited the Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority TEVTA in Lahore and promised to have projects in the education sector in Punjab and other regions of Pakistan which is a good sign for the education sector of the nation.
